RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Two Manhattan pitchers combined for a one-hit game in the nightcap to defeat Columbia 2-0. The Jaspers also won the first game 9-3.
In the first game, Manhattan took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and the score stayed the same until the fifth inning when the Lions tied the game. Sophomore Henry Perkins led off the inning with a single and then junior Craig Rodwogin hit him home on a double down the left field line to make the score 1-1.
The Jaspers, however, took a 7-1 lead in the bottom half of the inning, scoring six runs on four hits and two Columbia errors. Manhattan put up two more runs in the sixth inning to go ahead 9-1. The Lions scored two runs in the top of the seventh to make the final score 9-3. First-year Mike Roberts was hit by a pitch to start the inning and was out at second as Perkins hit the ball to the shortstop. Rodwogin and sophomore Dan Neczypor both walked to load the bases and then Perkins crossed the plate on a balk. First-year Ron Williams drew a walk to load up the bases again and then senior Michael DeFazio was hit by another pitch to score Rodwogin for the final run of the game.
