NEW YORK - Jim Felix has been named an assistant coach of men's soccer at Columbia. Starting June 1, Felix will join head coach Leo Chappel's staff after two years as an assistant at Georgetown, where the Hoyas posted a 21-17-3 record and a 11-9-1 mark in the Big East during Felix's tenure.
"Every program Jimmy has worked with has been successful," Chappel says. "His passion for the game filters into all areas of the program both on the field and off."
"Jimmy is one of the best trainers in the country and is a tremendous recruiter domestically and internationally," explains Chappel. "I have known coach Felix for more than ten years and am looking forward to working with him to reestablish Columbia soccer as a national power."
Prior to Georgetown, Felix was an assistant coach at the University of South Florida from 2000-03, where he helped lead the Bulls to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2001.
Felix also has Ivy League coaching experience as an assistant at Harvard (1991-94), prior to taking a similar position at Boston University in 1994.
His head coaching experience includes a four-year stint at the prestigious Buckingham, Browne & Nichols school outside Boston (1995-99) and a four-year tenure as the head man at Stony Brook from 1987-91.
Felix played collegiately at the University of South Florida, where he was a key player on the repeat Sun Belt Conference championship teams in 1977 and 1978.
Felix holds a Premier License from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, as well as "A" and "B" Licenses from the United States Soccer Federation.
