
Cal Overpowers Field Hockey 6-0

Cal scored 11 minutes into the game and never looked back, totaling four first-half goals and adding two more in the second period to defeat Columbia 6-0 in Berkeley, Calif.
Cal improved to 3-1, while Columbia dropped to 0-1.
Cal, rebounding from their first loss of the season coming at the hands of #1 Maryland, scored first and often, scoring at 10:48 and 14:42. Cal's other two wins were versus UMass and a double-overtime victory over #5 American.
The Bears added two more goals before halftime.
The Lions had scoring opportunities in the first period, tallying five corners to Cal's seven. The Lions finished with six and Cal totaled nine for the game.
The Bears finished with 22 shots to Columbia's eight.
Gena Miller had five saves on the night, while Cal's Veronica Sykes also totaled five in the shutout.
The Lions return to action on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 2 p.m. EST when they face Stanford in Stanford, Calif.
