NEW YORK -- Columbia University head men's soccer coach Kevin Anderson has announced that former Columbia soccer standout Tommy McMenemy will remain on staff as the top assistant men's soccer coach. A former All-American, McMenemy completed his third season as an assistant at his alma mater in 2008.
"We are excited to retain Tommy as top assistant coach," Anderson says. "He is a valuable asset to the Columbia men's soccer program and to the athletic department as a whole, and I look forward to building a championship-quality team along with him.”
Prior to joining the coaching staff, McMenemy was a four-year starter for the Lions from 2000-03 and earned All-Ivy League honors three times, including consecutive unanimous first team All-Ivy League nods in 2002 and 2003. McMenemy is Columbia's most recent All-American, earning the honor as a senior in 2003.
Last season, McMenemy helped Columbia to a pair of victories over nationally-ranked teams, including a 2-1 win at No. 19 Penn in which he served as head coach. The Lions also defeated No. 6 UC Santa Barbara, 3-1, earlier in the year.
The Southampton, England native graduated from Columbia in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in American history.
