PRINCETON, N.J. - The seventh-ranked Princeton Tigers took
an early lead and never looked back, defeating Columbia 4-0 at the Class of '52
Stadium on Friday, October 2. First-year Christie O'Hara tied her career-high
with 12 saves in the loss.
Princeton's offense, currently ranked sixth in the nation
for goals per game (4.25) and points per game (11.13), put pressure on
Columbia's defense from the opening whistle. For the game, the Tigers outshot the Lions 26-1 and held a
13-1 advantage in corners.
The home team struck first 12:24 into the game on a goal by
Julia Reinprecht. O'Hara made the initial save, but Reinprecht was able to collect the
rebound and put it away.
The Tigers pushed their lead to two less than two minutes later on a
redirected shot at 14:16, and added one more before the break to take a three-goal lead into the half.
Columbia's best chance of the half came off a corner when
Julia Garrison blasted a shot from the top of the circle, but a
Princeton defender got a piece of it to break up the play.
The Tigers continued to put the pressure on Columbia, but
O'Hara came up with four big saves to open the second stanza before Kathleen Sharkey beat the
first-year off a corner, prompting a Lions' timeout. Columbia shut down the Tigers' attack for the final
23 minutes of action, but the Lions was unable to get anything going.
Columbia (3-5, 1-2 Ivy) travels to Lafayette on Wednesday, October
7 for a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup.
