NEW YORK – The Columbia women's tennis team wrapped up a weekend of play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's 2009 Division 1 Women's Northeast Regional Indoor Championship at Yale University in New Haven, Conn. on Tuesday. None of the Lions were able to advance to the finals, despite a good showing from the team.

Natasha Makarova beat Marina Bykovskaya of Binghamton in the first round of the main draw, 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-4, before falling to Buffalo's Diana Popescua, 6-3, 6-3. Senior
Carling Donovan lost her first round match against UConn's Ali Campitiello, 6-2, 6-2, while first-year
Chelsea Davis lost her first-round match to Prerana Appineni of Stony Brook, 7-5, 6-2.
In doubles action, Davis and Donovan lost their first round match to Julie Flanzer and Misia Krazowski of Brown, 8-2.
Natalia Christenson and Makarova teamed up for a first round defeat of Kirsten and Tristany Leikem of Rhode Island, winning 8-4, before falling to Lauren Bates and Jillian Santos of Binghamton, 8-2.
