ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell's Matt Bouraee scored the game-winning goal 3:18 into the first overtime period to lift the Big Red past the Columbia University men's soccer team, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at Berman Field.
Bouraee broke a scoreless draw early in overtime, as he converted a cross from Matt Devitt and finished far post. The loss drops the Lions to 4-12-1 overall and 2-5 in the Ivy League. Cornell closes out its season with a 6-6-3 mark, 1-3-3 in the Ivy League.
Columbia's best chance at finding the back of the net in regulation came early on, as defender Ronnie Shaban had a header in the 13th minute that a Cornell defender made a save on to keep the game at 0-0.
In the final 10 minutes of regulation, the Lions had a pair of opportunities but could not convert. Junior co-captain Peppe Carotenuto and first-year Nick Scott sent shots toward net but were denied by Cornell goalie Rick Pflasterer.
For the match, Cornell outshot Columbia 18-12 but the Lions held the edge in corners 5-2. Junior Bayo Adafin led the team with four shots, while first-year Will Stamatis ended with three.
