
Men's Soccer Readies For Senior Day, #12 Harvard on Saturday

NEW YORK -- Four Columbia University men's soccer players will take part in their final match at Columbia Soccer Stadium on Saturday afternoon as the Lions host #12 Harvard on Senior Day. Gaby Da Silva, Steven Keker, James Prince and Ryan Scully will be honored before the 4 p.m. contest for their hard work and dedication to the program throughout their careers.
LAST TIME OUT
Junior Bayo Adafin
gave the Lions a 1-0 lead with a tally
in the 54th minute, but Adelphi scored the equalizing and go-ahead
goals eight and a half minutes apart to take a 2-1 decision on Tuesday
evening.
SERIES HISTORY
In a series that dates back to 1960, Harvard holds the edge, 28-18-3. From 1977-85, the Lions won nine straight matches between the two schools but in recent years have dropped the last four affairs.
LAST YEAR VS. HARVARD
Bayo Adafin tallied his sixth goal of the season in giving Columbia a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute of action. But 29th-ranked Harvard proved to be too much, scoring six unanswered goals en route to a 6-1 victory at Ohiri Field.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
With 11 goals this season, All-American Andre Akpan leads Harvard and ranks 10th in
the nation with 0.73 goals per game. He is also eighth with 1.80
points per contest, having amassed 27 points in 15 games. Brian
Rogers stands second on the Crimson in scoring with five goals and
four assists for 14 points, while Adam Rousmaniere leads the team
with six assists. In goal, Austin Harms owns a 10-3-1 record with
five shutouts, a 0.84 goals-against average and a save
percentage of .800.
ABOUT COLUMBIA
With six goals and 13 points on the year, junior Bayo Adafin leads Columbia's offensive attack. Adafin registered six shots and found the back of the net with one of them in the Lions' most recent contest against Adelphi on Tuesday. First-year Will Stamatis and sophomore Alexander Aurrichio assisted on the goal. Senior James Prince ranks second on the squad with three goals, two assists and eight points, and has seen action in all 15 matches this season.
Defensively, Columbia boasts a youthful unit that includes three sophomores and a pair of first-years. Aurrichio has seen every minute of play between the pipes this season and has stopped 64 shots, while classmates Ronnie Shaban and Will Young, and first-years Brendan O'Hearn and Quentin Grigsby have comprised the back line in each of the last five matches.
