NEW YORK -- For the first time this season and for the fifth time in her career, women's basketball standout Judie Lomax has been named the Ivy League Women's Basketball Player of the Week, as it was announced on Monday by the conference. On Tuesday, the junior was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Week. Lomax played a large role in helping the Lions go 2-0 on the week, as she recorded her seventh and eighth double-doubles of the year.
The Washington, D.C., native was a force in the paint for Columbia, as she poured in a career-high 30 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in a road win over Wagner on Wednesday, then followed that up with a 25-point, 17-rebound performance as the Lions defeated Monmouth at Levien Gymnasium on Sunday.
Lomax was efficient from the floor over the two games, converting on 58.3 percent of her field goal attempts while also shooting an impressive 86.7 percent (13-15) from the free throw line. She also averaged 3.5 assists and 1.0 steals in the pair of contests. The output against the Hawks came in just 30 minutes of play, as Columbia used its bench liberally down the stretch with the contest in hand.
The 5-11 forward currently leads the Ivy League in scoring (16.8 ppg), rebounding (13.0 rpg) and paces the conference in field-goal percentage (.557).
The Columbia University women's basketball team (6-4) will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 30 at Robert Morris.
