NEW YORK -- Ten home doubleheaders, beginning with a twinbill against Iona on March 27, highlight the Columbia University softball team's 2010 schedule, which was finalized recently by head coach Kayla Noonan.
The Lions will kickoff their season on March 6-7 with a four-game set with Delaware State in Dover, Del. The following weekend, Columbia will travel to Kissimmee, Fla. for the Rebel Spring Games. The Lions open the eight-day event against Lehigh on March 12. The Mountain Hawks were Patriot League champions last season, and advanced to the NCAA Gainesville Regional final after upsetting nationally-ranked Texas A&M.
Columbia will also take on NCAA Tournament participants Sacred Heart and Florida A&M on March 13, and Atlantic Coast Conference member Maryland on March 17. Another tilt against a postseason team, Horizon League champion Cleveland State, will take place on March 19, the final day of competition in Florida. All told, Columbia will play 14 games over eight days in the Sunshine State.
The Lions return to the City of New York to take on the Gaels on March 27, then will play host to Manhattan for a pair of contests the following day. Home twinbills against Monmouth (March 30), Marist (April 6) and Rider (April 22) also dot the home slate.
Ivy League opening weekend will be held on April 2-3, as Columbia tangles with Yale and Brown at the Columbia Softball Venue. The Lions will make their first Ivy League road trip to Dartmouth and Harvard on April 9-10.
Columbia hosts Princeton for four games in its first test against an Ivy League South Division opponent on April 17-18. The Lions will be on the road for a four-game series with Cornell on April 24-25, and conclude Ivy League action with a split four-game set with Penn. Columbia will travel to Philadelphia to take on the Quakers on April 30, then will return for the season-closing doubleheader on May 1.
