Campbell's Two Goals Power Field Hockey Past Brown in Ivy League Opener

NEW YORK - Columbia senior Catherine Campbell scored single tallies in each half en route to a 2-0 victory over Brown in its Ivy League opener.  With the win, the Lions evened their record to 2-2 and extended its winning streak against the Bears to three games.

The Lions kept up an aggressive attack from the first whistle, getting on the board just 12 minutes into the game on a corner by Campbell.  Katie DeSandis pushed the ball to an awaiting Caitlin Mullins, who slipped the ball to Campbell for her first goal of the game. 

With the one-goal lead, the Lions continued to pressure the Bears, outshooting them 5-1 in the first half. 

Keeping up the intensity early in the second half, Columbia scored seven minutes into the period on an identical corner, with Christine Buszczak pushing the ball to Mullins, and then onto Campbell for the goal.

Columbia outshot Brown 17-2 in the second and 22-3 overall.   Christie O'Hara earned her first career shut-out in the win with help a solid defensive effort by the Lions.

Columbia held a 15-3 advantage in corners, while the Brown goalie, Caroline Washburn had four saves in the net for the Bears.

Columbia (2-2, 1-0 Ivy League) return to action on Wednesday, September 23 when it hosts Fairfield at 7 p.m.
