"Each of these recruits should help our team both this year, and in the next four years," the Columbia Tennis Alumni and Friends Head Coach of Men's Tennis Bid Goswami said. "All three of them are five-star recruits."
Cyril Bucher from Switzerland brings international experience to Columbia, having played for the Swiss club Lido Lucerne and earning a Swiss championship in 2003. Bucher has been ranked in the top 100 players in the nation, and helped lead his club to multiple league championships.
John Yetimoglu hails from Miami, and was ranked in the top 30 in the nation in Boys 18s USTA in his first year in the age group. Yetimoglu, who graduated from Miami Palmetto Senior High School two years early, and spent a year working on his tennis game, also has both a singles (at No. 3) and doubles (at No. 2) state title under his belt.
Nathaniel Gery is another player adding to the international contingent for the Lions, as he travels south to Morningside Heights from Ontario, Canada. There, Gery was a two-time Canadian national champion at the U14 and U18 levels.
Men's tennis opens the 2009-2010 season on the road on Friday, Sept. 11, with the University of Virginia Invitational in Charlottesville, Va.
