
Men's Soccer Continues Homestand With Match Against Fordham on Tuesday

NEW YORK -- The Columbia University men's soccer team will continue its six-game homestand against Fordham on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at Columbia Soccer Stadium. The Lions took home a 2-1, overtime victory over Bryant their last time out, and will look for their second straight win as they continue a rivalry with the Rams that dates back to 1958.
Scouting the Rams
Fordham enters with a 2-5 record, but has won two of its last three contests. The Rams picked up 1-0 shutouts against Marist and Manhattan, before falling to Central Connecticut State, 2-1, this past Saturday. Veer Lakhan-Joseph, a freshman from Trinidad, leads the squad with a pair of goals. Fordham has recorded just five goals through seven contests this season.
Series History
The men's soccer series between Fordham and Columbia dates back 1958, when the Lions dispatched of the Rams by a 7-1 margin. Columbia leads the series 24-8-4, and has won three of the last four matchups. In the last match between the two schools, Fordham came away with a 3-2 victory on Sept. 3, 2006.
Bayo's Brace Helps Lions Bounce Bulldogs
Junior forward Bayo Adafin injected some life into the Columbia offense in the second half against Bryant. Adafin recorded a pair of goals, including one just 2:33 into overtime to help the Lions to a 2-1 win. The Rochester, Minn., native recorded five shots in the contest, and leads Columbia with three goals on the season.
Familiar Faces
When the Columbia faces Fordham, a few Lions will see some former teammates on the opposing bench. Junior midfielder Peppe Carotenuto and Rams senior midfielder Alex Brunbauer each attended Chapparal High School in Arizona. Lions sophomore Mike Mazzullo and Fordham sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Meara both hail from Yonkers, N.Y., and attended Fordham Prep, while Columbia sophomore Alexander Aurrichio and Ram sophomore Phil Ferrantello each call Dix Hills, N.Y., home. Aurrichio attended high school at Half Hollow Hills West, while Ferrantello went to St. John the Baptist.
