NEW YORK – The Columbia women's tennis team dropped its last match of the ECAC Team Indoor Championship Sunday, in Cambridge, Mass., as the Lions fell to Cornell in a shortened format match, 3-1.
The two teams faced off in a consolation bracket match this morning that saw only one doubles match, and four singles match ups. In doubles, junior
Natalia Christenson and sophomore
Eliza Matache lost the doubles point, 8-4 to Cornell's Ruxndra Dumitrescu and Natalia Sanchez.
In singles, first-year
Nicole Bartnik had Columbia's lone point, as she defeated Christine Ordway in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
Natasha Makarova had a loss in the No. 2 singles spot, as she fell to Lim, 6-1, 7-5. And senior
Carling Donovan had a loss at No. 4, where she fell to Cornell's Susan Sullivan, 6-4, 6-2.
First-year
Chelsea Davis was in the midst of a battle when the match was called for Cornell, who had gone up 3-1. Davis was fighting it out with Sarah O'Neil of the Big Red, and the pair had traded wins in the sets, with the score standing at 6-2, 3-6, 5-0 in favor of O'Neil when the match was called.
Up next, the Lions return home to the Dick Savitt Tennis Center to take on two opponents from upstate New York. Friday, February 19, the Lions will host Syracuse at 5 p.m., and Saturday, February 20, they will take on Buffalo at 5 p.m.
