NEW YORK - First-year Jason Collazo took part in the NCAA Diving Zones in East Rutherford, N.J. this weekend, in the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform diving competitions, and came in fifth overall in the platform dive.
The first event of the weekend was the three-meter diving competition, which took place on Friday. In that event, Collazo came in 29th out of 38 divers, scoring 230.60 points in the prelims. He followed that up with the one-meter completion on Saturday. In that event, he came in 31st out of 39 divers, scoring 230.15 points overall.
Collazo, who competed in both the one and three-meter dives all season, managed to surpass expectations in the last day of competition, as he had his highest finish in the platform dive, the height with which he has the least experience. Collazo dove well in the preliminaries, scoring 275.15 points. In the final, he managed to score 513.75 points, which helped him to a third place finish out of 12 divers.
