
Women's Basketball Takes Home Lions Cup Trophy at 2010 Varsity C Celebration

NEW YORK -- The 2010 edition of Columbia women's basketball continued to haul in the accolades at the 89th Annual Varsity C Celebration: Saluting Our Student-Athletes on Tuesday, May 4. The women's basketball team took home the second annual Lions Cup trophy, which is awarded to the Columbia intercollegiate athletics program that most exemplifies success on and off the field of play.
The women's basketball squad was by far the most spirited team amongst all programs, collecting 1,130 points based on attendance at athletic events throughout the school year. The hoopsters also ranked second behind the women's soccer team in community service with 2,070 points.
Overall the women's basketball Lions accumulated 3,970 points to edge women's soccer, who finished with 3,715 points. Men's soccer ranked third with 2,660 points while football closed in fourth place with 2,355 points.
Columbia women's basketball set a program record with 18 wins in 2009-10, and also had the most student-athletes (5) of any Columbia intercollegiate program recognized on the Dean's List in the fall 2009 semester. The Lions return 11 student-athletes from the record-setting team for the 2010-11 season.
