NEW YORK - After another successful season, the Columbia archery team had four archers achieve All-American status. In the women's collegiate division, the Lions claimed three of the 10 spots in women's recurve, in addition to one archer in the compound division. This prestigious honor, which represents the very best of US Collegiate Archery, has been awarded to the top archers in each category who achieved the highest combined finishes at National Indoor Championships and the recent United States Intercollegiate Archery Championships (USIAC). They were honored at a Banquet following the conclusion of the 2010 USIAC.
Sara Goshorn, who recently graduated from Columbia in May, was named All-American for the third consecutive year. The Brownstown, Pa. native capped her stellar career by winning two silver medals at the United States Intercollegiate Archery Championships (USIAC). Goshorn was a member of the three-person recurve team to take second in the team rounds, before going on to win silver in the individual head-to-head competition. More impressive, her 849 total in the qualifying round ranked second nationally, earning her a spot on the collegiate national team that will represent the U.S. in China this fall.
Picking up the All-American nod for the second consecutive year was Sarah Chai. The sophomore was one of Columbia's most consistent shooters this season, and was also a member of the three-person team to win silver at USIAC last month. The Irvine, Calif. native won gold earlier this season at the East Regional Intercollegiate Archery Championships.
Rounding out the recurve honorees is Lauren Marion. The junior had a breakout season and achieved All-American honors for the first time in her career. Marion, who hails from El Macero, Calif., ranked eighth overall in the qualifying round at USIAC. She advanced to the round of 16 in the individual head-to-head competition before she was eliminated.
Sophomore Sydney Shaefer was the lone compound representative for Columbia to earn All-American. The Rapid City, S.D. native finished sixth overall in the qualifying round at USIAC. This marks the second year that Shaefer has been named All-American.
