DeSousa, Lipscomb Win Divisions at CU Invitational

Event shortened due to the weekend blizzard
NEW YORK – The Columbia archery team hosted the CU Invitational on Saturday at the Columbia Archery Training Center. Sophomore Alena Lipscomb earned gold in the Recurve Women's Division. Senior Giselle DeSousa earned gold in the Compound Women's Division.
The event, originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, was shortened to just Saturday. Sunday's sessions were canceled due to the blizzard that affected the New York City area.
Lipscomb bested a field of seven to win the Recurve Women's Division. She scored perfect 10s with 42 of her 60 arrows and scored 9s with 15 more. Lipscomb totaled 579 points, beating out fellow Lion and senior Lillian Han (561), who earned silver. Junior Michelle Ahn (548) took bronze.
DeSousa bested a field of five to win the Compound Women's Division. She scored perfect 10s with 39 of her 60 arrows and scored 9s with 21 more. DeSousa totaled a score of 579, squeaking past sophomore Briana Moore (571) for the gold. First year Cheryl Wong (566) took bronze.
The Lions now prepare for the USA Archery Indoor Nationals this Saturday and Sunday. Columbia will compete at the Harrisonburg, Virginia, regional site.
