Ready For Some Football? Lions Open the 2010 Season Hosting Fordham

Columbia opens the season vs. Fordham on Saturday, September 18.  Full game notes are available above.

THE SERIES
This is the 19th game between Fordham and Columbia dating all the way back to 1890.  Columbia leads the series 12-6.  Columbia is 24-9-1 all-time vs. New York City institutions of higher learning.

THE LIBERTY CUP
This is the ninth annual Liberty Cup game. The Cup series was initiated in September of 2002 to commemorate those who lost their lives in the tragic events of September 11, 2001. The Liberty Cup series is tied 4-4. 

LAST TIME VS. FORDHAM
Columbia won the 2009 Liberty Cup with a 40-28 win at Jack Coffey Field, while Fordham had won the previous two matchups.  Columbia's last home victory over Fordham was in 2006, a 37-7 win, Norries Wilson's first-ever game as the Patricia and Shepard Alexander Head Coach of Football.  Fordham defeated Columbia at Robert K. Kraft Field in 2008, 29-22.

FORDHAM'S LAST GAME
After losing its season opener to Bryant, Fordham bounced back and beat Rhode Island 27-25 at Jack Coffey Field.  Fordham's senior running back Xavier Martin had 95 yards rushing with a touchdown, while Blake Wayne had 64 yards and two touchdowns for the Rams.

2010 COLUMBIA FOOTBALL CAPTAINS
Seniors Alex Gross, Andrew Kennedy, Matt Moretto and Mike Stephens were elected as captains for the 2010 Columbia Football season.

FIRST OF ALL
Columbia is 63-50-6 all-time in season openers.  The Lions are 2-2 in openers under Coach Wilson.

FAMILIAR FOE
For season openers, Columbia has played only one team more frequently than Fordham (this is the eleventh opening-game meeting).   Columbia has played Harvard 27 times, while Fordham, Brown and Rutgers are all tied with 11 meetings each to open Columbia's season. Columbia has also faced Lafayette eight times in season starters.
