Columbia Returns Home for Football Clash with Yale on Saturday at Noon

NEW YORK - Columbia is back home on Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium this Saturday, October 29 against Yale in a game that will start at noon and will be shown on the YES Network.

This will be Columbia's second straight home game that will be televised to a national audience. The Lions' game on October 15 vs. Penn was shown on VERSUS in front of a Homecoming crowd of 9,124 people.

It is also Columbia's second annual "Green Game" to promote sustainability awareness. The Green Game is a special collaborative effort with Columbia University's Office of Environmental Stewardship and community groups to raise awareness for environmentally sustainable programs and activities.  Columbia Football is proud to host our second annual Green Game. The first 1,000 fans will receive a free rally towel.

Local organizations will have tables set up on the outer concourse to Lawrence A. Wien Stadium to inform fans of their efforts in the community to promote sustainability. New recycling bins will be scattered throughout the stadium with eco representatives from Columbia on hand to educate fans on what can and cannot be recycled.

THE SERIES
This will be the 90th meeting in the series between Columbia and Yale, which dates back to 1872. Yale has won the last nine games played between the two schools but the last two games have each come down to the final possession. Both games have been decided by three points or fewer.

BRACKETT PASSING GREATS
Junior quarterback Sean Brackett is now in third place in the Columbia record book with 30 touchdown passes. He stands behind John Witkowski (56) and Jeff McCall (31) on the school's all-time list.  Brackett has thrown for an average of 198.4 yards per game, good for fourth in the league. He also has racked up an average of 242 yards of total offense, which is also fourth among all Ivy League players.

SPREADING THE WEALTH
Fourteen different Lions have made at least one reception during the season. Senior wideout Kurt Williams leads the pack with 25 receptions for 344 yards this season.

CELEBRATING THE 4TH
Columbia's defense is first in the Ivy League at regaining possession after a fourth down attempt.  Columbia has stopped its opponent eight times in 10 tries on fourth down attempts.

IN THE NICK OF TIME
Senior linebacker Nick Mistretta had a big game against Dartmouth with a team-best 11 tackles and an acrobatic interception in the fourth quarter.  It was Mistretta's first career interception.

IN THE ZONE
The Lions have scored 10 touchdowns on 16 trips into the opponent's red zone this season and have scored on 75% of their red zone trips this season.

MARTIN STANDING TALL
Junior linebacker Josh Martin ranks among the Ivy League's top five in sacks and tackles for a loss this season.  Martin is fourth in the league with 4 1/2 sacks and ranks fifth in the league with six tackles for a loss.

LIONS ON TV?  YES!
This will be Columbia's second game this season that will be televised nationwide.  Today's game vs. Yale will be shown on the YES Network after the Lions' October 15 home game vs. Penn was broadcast to a national audience on VERSUS.

LAST TIME OUT FOR COLUMBIA
The Lions turned the ball over four times and Dartmouth running back Nick Schwieger rushed for 157 yards and three scores as the Big Green blanked Columbia, 37-0.

LAST TIME OUT FOR YALE
The Bulldogs led Penn 20-10 after three quarters but the host Quakers outscored Yale 27-5 in the final 15 minutes to capture a 37-25 victory.

WEISS MAN UNDER CENTER
Columbia junior quarterback Andrew Weiss saw his first varsity action last week at Dartmouth after senior Jerry Bell started the game at quarterback. Weiss completed four passes for 34 yards late in the game and scampered for 11 yards on the ground.

SLIVKA SLIPS IN
Columbia rookie receiver Dan Slivka has cracked the lineup during the last two weeks, seeing the first action of his collegiate career. Over the last two games, Slivka has made three catches and gained 24 yards.

WASHINGTON CAPITALIZES
Another newcomer, Chad Washington, saw his first varsity action of his career last week at Dartmouth. Washington, a 6-4, 240-pound defensive lineman, made four stops including two solo tackles, in the game.

MORE FOR MORAND
Senior Ross Morand had 12 solo tackles vs. Penn, a career high.  For his efforts Morand was named the John Toner Columbia Homecoming Player of the Game.

ZACH ATTACK
Zach Olinger is tied for eigth in the Ivy League with 51 tackles on the year, and average of 8.5 per game.  A.J. Maddox is tied for 18th in the league. Along with teammate Kalasi Huggins, Olinger ranks second in the Ivy League in forced fumbles with two.

MURPHY'S LAW
Ryan Murphy leads the League in fumbles recovered with two.  The junior linebacker has started all six games and also has registered five tackles for a loss this season.

HAMILTON HAULS IT IN
Sophomore tight end Hamilton Garner has caught a touchdown pass in three of Columbia's last four games. Against Penn, Garner made a 16-yard scoring catch to put the Lions ahead 17-10 in the third quarter. A week earlier vs. Sacred Heart, Garner caught two touchdown passes and now has four scores on the year.

HAUSCHILDT NAMED SEMIFINALIST FOR NFF NATIONAL SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARD
Columbia senior football captain Bob Hauschildt was named a semifinalist for the 2011 National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete Awards, presented by Fidelity Investments®, a leading provider of not-for-profit workplace retirement savings plans in higher education. Last year, Hauschildt was awarded the Class of 1913 Football Cup, awarded annually to the member of the Columbia football squad, in his junior or senior season, who achieves the best scholastic average. Hauschildt is a two-year starter on the Lions' offensive line and was chosen as one of four captains prior to the start of the 2011 campaign.

HAMBLIN IS 2011 NFF NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLAR-ATHLETE
The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced that Columbia defensive back Tyler Hamblin is one of five winners of the 2011 NFF National High School Scholar-Athlete Awards with each recipient selected as the best of the best from their region of the country at the high school level.  Selected from the 400,000 high school football players covered by the NFF Chapter Network, Hamblin, who played his high school ball at Cretin-Derham in Minneapolis, Minn., is the Midwest Region winner.  He will be honored for his high school accomplishments during the NFF Chapter Awards Luncheon Tuesday, December 6 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City.

NUMBER EIGHT IS GREAT
Kurt Williams leads the Columbia receiving corps with 25 receptions. After playing defensive back his first two seasons at Columbia, the senior wideout is averaging 57.3 yards per game, good for eighth in the Ivy League.

MARVELOUS MARCORUS
Sophomore running back Marcorus Garrett has found the end zone in two of the last three weeks and last week at Dartmouth, Garrett had one of his best games of the year, rushing for 61 yards on 13 carries.

TRANSIT UPDATE
The NYC Subway 1 line will run without interruption to and from the Baker Athletics Complex for the remainder of Columbia's home football schedule. There also will be Columbia Athletics shuttle buses leaving from 116th and Broadway, starting starting one and a half hours before kickoff.

The Baker Athletics Complex also is accessible via mass transit utilizing the NYC subway A line. The final stop on the A train is 207th Street. It is just a short walk to the Baker Athletics Complex on 218th Street or you can take the MTA Columbia Football shuttle bus from 207th Street. Fans can also take the Metro North train on the Hudson line, which stops at Marble Hill (225th Street), just a short walk south over the Broadway Bridge to Baker Athletics Complex.
