NEW YORK - Reigning Ivy League Championships Swimmer of the Meet and All-America honoree, Katie Meili ('13CC), continues to strive for success this year. On Tuesday, June 26 she will race for the ultimate honor for a berth on the U.S. Olympic swimming team. Meili is one of several swimmers who qualified for the 2012 Olympic Trials, which will be held Monday, June 25 - July 2 in Omaha, Neb. Meili and Salena Huang ('15CC) are both current members of the Columbia women's swimming team heading to Omaha this weekend. They will join Lauren Morford ('07CC), who will compete in her second Olympic Trials.

Morford will enter the Trials with the highest seed of the three at #24 in the 800 free with a time of 8:41.95. She will begin with the 400 free on Tuesday, June 26, holding a 54th overall seed at 4:16.51.  The 800 free will kick off on the latter part of the Trials on day six, Saturday, June 30.

Also on Tuesday, June 26, Meili will compete in the 100 breast where she dominated in the Ivy League this season. After capturing the Ivy League title in the event, Meili went on to finish fifth in the NCAA championship finals. Meili has continued to work hard all season and her resilience will be put to the test as she enters the trials recovering from a broken hand injury suffered in the Santa Clara Grand Prix.  She maintains the 30th seed with a time of 1:09.69 and USASwimming.org has named her heat as the "race not to be missed."

On Friday, June 29, rising sophomore Huang will compete in her first Olympic Trial in the 100 freestyle event. Huang had a sensational first year for the Lions. She started 2012 with five first-place victories in three meets and won Ivy League titles in the 400 free and medley relays, as well as the 200 free relay.
