MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The No. 10 Columbia men's squash team split a pair of matches over the weekend, downing No. 16 Middlebury Saturday, 5-4, but dropping a tough match to No. 11 Williams, 6-3, Sunday.

Against the Panthers Saturday, Columbia played well at the top of the ladder, winning three of the top-four matches. Ramit Tandon took the top match in three games, 11-6, 11-7, 11-4, over Jay Dolan, while Mohamed AbdelMaksoud and Graham Miao won the No. 3 and 4 matches in four games.

The bottom of the ladder was filled with tightly contested five-game matches. In the No. 6 match, Kyul Rhee rallied from a 2-1 game deficit to knock off Harrison Croll, capturing the final two games in extra points, 12-10, 14-12. Alex Nalle also fell behind 2-1, but found his stride to defeat Willy Clarke in the No. 8 match.

Going up against Williams Sunday, Tandon and AbdelMaksoud picked up their second wins of the weekend, but the Lions fell 6-3. Tandon swept Kevin Chen in the No. 1 match and AbdelMaksoud downed Taylor Foehl in the No. 3 contest.

Alec Goldberg added Columbia's third point with a four-game victory in the No. 9 match. Goldberg dropped the opening game to Rohan Paranjpe, but rebounded with victories in the next three games.

Columbia will return to Ivy League action Saturday, Feb. 2 when it visits Harvard for a 12 p.m. match.
