CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - For the third consecutive season, senior Uju Ofoche captured the women's indoor long jump title on the first day of the 2013 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships at Harvard's Albert H. Gordon Track. Both Columbia men and women's track and field teams put together strong showings on Saturday, including five first-place preliminary finishes on the women's side.
The final day of competition will begin on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 10 a.m. with the Men's 60m hurdles final. The final event will be the Men's 4x400m relay scheduled for 4:10 p.m.
THE COLUMBIA WOMEN
The Lions finished the day with a total of 22 points to tie for fourth place with Dartmouth. Ofoche's leap of 6.06m gave the senior her final indoor long jump title. With a leap of 5.70m, Nadia Eke and QueenDenise Okeke both tied for third place in the event.
Marvellous Iheukwumere showed well with first-place prelim finishes in both the 60 meter dash (7.60 seconds) and the 200 meter dash (24.58 seconds). In the distance events, Trina Bills clocked in with top time of 2:09.94 in the 800 meter run and Erin Gillingham finished with the top time in the one mile run at 4:45.53. Olivia Sadler came in just behind Gillingham at 4:48.85 in the one mile for fifth place and Iris Chijoke took fourth place in the 60m hurdes at 8.81 seconds.

THE COLUMBIA MEN
The Columbia men put together solid runs in the mid-distance and distance events on opening day. John Gregorek will move on to the finals in the one mile run after posting a fourth place time of 4:10.39 in the preliminaries. He will be joined by Mark Feigen in the finals as well.
Samuel Miner will represent Columbia in the 500 meter dash after posting the fifth fastest preliminary time at 1:05.05 seconds. Harrison McFann and Connor Claflin crossed the finish line with top five times in the 800 meter run at 1:51.45 (McFann) and 1:50.74 (Claflin). In the 1000 meter run Brendon Fish also had a good day with a time of 2:26.76.
