PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown took the lead at 12:02 in the first quarter and did not look back en route to a 41-7 win in the Ivy League season finale for both teams.
Brown took a 24-0 lead into the locker room at the half, after scoring touchdowns on their first three possessions, and adding a field goal on their fourth drive. The Bears drove deep into Columbia territory late in the second quarter, but the Lions' defense held and Brown missed a 30-yard field goal.
Columbia put together a great drive at the end of the first half, driving to the Brown 29 yard line, but Columbia's 41-yard field goal was no good, missing wide left.
Brown added a touchdown and field goal in the third quarter and a touchdown early in the fourth to round out the Bears' scoring.
Columbia scored in the fourth quarter when first-year quarterback Anders Hill found senior Garrett DeMuth twice in three plays for gains of 13 and 11 yards, taking Columbia to the Columbia 27. Hill connected with Toure Douglas for a gain of eight yards before finding G. DeMuth again for another 15. At the Brown 39 yard line, Hill hit the DeMuth brothers in succession, connecting with Turner for a gain of nine and Garrett for a gain of six.
On third and 10 from the Brown 24, Hill passed to T. DeMuth for a gain of 14 yards, but an ineligible receiver downfield negated the play. On third and 15, Hill connected with Marcus Briscoe for a gain of 14 and the Lions went for it on fourth and one from the Brown 15. Hill scrambled and kept the ball for a gain of 11, taking Columbia to the Brown four-yard line. Turner DeMuth scored on a four-yard rush and Noah Zgrablich tacked on the extra point for the final 41-7 margin.
Hill finished 18-of-36 for 219 yards, while Ryan Flannery had 61 yards receiving and Garrett DeMuth had 54 yards. Malcolm Thaxton had a game-high 12 tackles, while first-year Devin Williams had nine.
