FLUSHING, N.Y. - Ashok Narayana and Max Schnur of the Columbia men's tennis team fell in the doubles consolation final at the 2014 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center Sunday morning.
Narayana and Schnur, the sixth-ranked pair in the nation, could not outlast Ohio State's duo of Kevin Metka and Ralf Steinbach, who rank 16th in the ITA. The Lions fell behind early in the first, 1-4, before winning a game to cut the Buckeye's lead. The senior tandem could not rally, however, as they dropped a 6-3 decision in the first frame.
In the second set things turned in favor of Narayana and Schnur as the pair won the first game to take an early 1-0 edge. The score bounced back and forth as the teams traded points. Tied at 5-all Narayana and Schnur went ahead 6-5, but Metka and Steinbach took the ensuing game to level the match for the sixth time in the stanza. In the tiebreaker, the Buckeyes came out on top to seal the set 7-6(2) and the match.
Narayana and Schnur put a cap on the the Lions 2014 fall schedule. Columbia will return to action after the New Year.
