NEW YORK - The Columbia football team dropped a 42-7 decision on Homecoming Saturday, Oct. 17 presented by Turismo Chile at Robert K Kraft Field in Lawrence Wien Stadium.
With the score tied at seven after the first quarter, the Quakers used three unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter to jump out in front and went on to grab the win.
Sophomore defensive lineman Dominic Perkovic forced a fumble and recorded five tackles to earn the John Toner Homecoming Player of the Game honors.
Scooter Hollis led the Lions with four receptions totaling 42 yards, while teammate Cameron Dunn had three receptions for 16 yards and his first touchdown of the season.
Following a turnover on downs the Lions took over from their own 32. An 11-yard carry by Cameron Molina moved the ball to midfield, before Skyler Mornhinweg ran for 12-yards, placing the offense in Quaker territory. Five plays later from the six-yard line, Mornhinweg connected with Cameron Dunn in the back of the end zone, to give Columbia an early 7-0 lead with 5:03 remaining in the first quarter.
The touchdown was the first passing touchdown on the season for the Lions.
After the Lions' score, a pair of rushing touchdowns by Tre Solomon helped the Quakers go on a six touchdown scoring run, taking a 42-7 lead with 8:22 remaining in the third quarter.
Mornhinweg completed 11-of-15 passes for 56 yards and a score, while Travis Reim had a team-high eight tackles.
The Lions will travel to Dartmouth on Saturday, October 24. Kick-off is slated for 3 p.m. on the Ivy League Digital Network.
