UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. 43 Columbia women's tennis team slipped to the Rams of VCU, 4-3, Saturday afternoon at Penn State's Indoor Center.
The Lions used new combinations on the doubles court, but it was not enough as the Rams took wins on the first and second courts, respectively. At the top spot, Kanika Vaidya and Adi Milstein fell to Salome Kvitashvili and Olga Barscheuskaya, 8-6. Tina Jiang and Alexandra Solovyev teamed up as Columbia's second pair. The sophomore/first-year tandem were defeated by Cindy Chala and Darya Berezhnava, 8-3.
In singles, the Lions took courts four through six, but it would not be enough as VCU won on the top half to seal the 4-3 victory.
At No. 4 Solovyev bested Berezhnaya, 6-0, 6-4. Vivian Cheng picked up a 6-3, 6-4, win over the Rams' Ludivine Burguiere on the fifth court and Milstein downed Alberta Veverkova, 6-2, 6-1, in the sixth spot.
Columbia returns to the friendly confines of the Dick Savitt Tennis Center Friday, Feb. 27 for a dual versus the Terriers of Boston University at noon.
