Day One Results
Princeton, N.J. – With the opening six events of the 2015 Men's Swimming & Diving Ivy League Championships in the books, Columbia completed day one in sixth place with 199 points on Thursday, Feb. 26 in DeNunzio Pool. The Ancient Eight crowned champions in the 1m dive, the 200 freestyle relay, the 500 freestyle, the 200 IM, the 50 freestyle and the 400 medley relay.
The Lions were amazing on the boards with a pair of top-five finishes in the 1m dive. Jayden Pantel used a 299.95 prelims total and a NCAA 'A' cut finals tally of 328.80 to grab a third-place overall finish. The first-year was followed by senior teammate Micah Rembrandt who compiled a prelims total of 280.05 and finals total of 293.80 for a fifth-place overall finish.
Alex Ngan led the Lions in the pool with a championship appearance in the 50 freestyle, highlighted by his first sub 20 second performances. In the morning prelims, Ngan swam a personal-best time of 19.97 for an 'A' finals qualifying fifth-place seed. The senior returned in the finals for a sixth-place overall finish with a NCAA 'B' cut time of 19.99.
Ngan was also a member of Columbia's 200 freestyle relay team to kick-off the finals events. David Jakl, Ngan, Stanley Wong and Joe Shepley combined for a third-place time of 1:18.88.
The Lions saw an unlucky break with a disqualification in the 400 medley relay, but Columbia will return to DeNunzio pool for day two and the next eight events tomorrow. Princeton currently leads the field with 488 points, followed by Harvard in second place ay 385 points and Yale in third-place at 326 points.
The three-day meet will continue on Friday, Feb. 28 with 11 a.m. preliminaries, and conclude with finals sessions at 6 p.m. Click the link above to view the full schedule of events.
Adult ticket prices are set for $30 event pass, $4 one-day prelim ticket and $6 one-night finals ticket. Children (under 12) and student with valid ID prices are $1 one-day prelims and $3 one-night finals tickets.
