No. 57 Women's Tennis Sweeps Boston University, 7-0

NEW YORK – The No. 57 Columbia women's tennis team had all cylinders firing Friday afternoon on its home courts, as the Lions blanked Boston University, 7-0, at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center. Columbia ups its overall record to 5-4.

The doubles duos were dominant for the home team Friday. Tina Jiang and Crystal Leung were the first to finish, as the sophomore/senior partnership claimed an 8-3 win on the first court. Kanika Vaidya and Rima Asatrian were right on their heels on the second court, playing to a clean 8-2 victory to claim the doubles point. Adi Milstein and Alexandra Solovyev played at third doubles, but play was stopped once the point was clinched.

Singles featured a sextet of victories, led by Milstein's effort on the fifth court. The rookie peppered her opponent to sweep Craft, 6-0, 6-0, and put the hosts up 2-0. Solovyev finished soon after on the fourth court, serving out a 6-3, 6-0, victory over Rodriguez, to bring Columbia within a point of the match victory.

Asatrian had the honor of closing out the match for the Lions, battling in the final game of a 7-5, 6-3, win versus Davis at second singles. Vaidya and Vivian Cheng finished nearly at the same time with the former claiming a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, win over No. 22 Hyoty at No. 1 and the latter powering throw in a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 6.  Leung wrapped up the wins for the Lions with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 decision on court three.

The Lions head back on the road next weekend as they make the trip to Memphis, Tennessee, for a match with the Tigers Saturday, March. 7.
