PRINCETON, N.J. – Columbia baseball's Will Savage was named Ivy League Player of the Week, becoming the third Lion to earn the honor this season. Savage hit .529 (9-for-17) in four games, helping Columbia go 3-1 at Princeton over the weekend.
The sophomore hit safely in all four games and had a strong Saturday in the first two games of the series against the Tigers. In game one, Savage went 2-for-4 with a run scored and followed with a 3-for-5 performance with a pair of runs in the nightcap. On Sunday, the second baseman finished the series strong, going 3-for-6 with a home run and five RBI to help the Lions cruise to a 9-1 win.
Columbia put two more players on the Weekly Honor Roll after fine performances by Kevin Roy and David Vandercook.
Roy tossed his second consecutive complete-game shutout in game three on Sunday. He allowed just three hits and struck out seven to improve to 3-2. Vandercook hit .375 and tied Savage for the team lead with five RBI in five games.
The Lions are back in action on Wednesday, April 15 for a non-conference tilt with Rutgers at 3:30 p.m.
