DURHAM, N.C. – Columbia baseball head coach Brett Boretti has been selected as one of six managers at USA Baseball's 2015 Tournament of Stars from June 23-28. Boretti will coach a group of players that will be considered for the 18U National Team at the USA Baseball Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.
Boretti will be the skipper of the “FREE” squad and will be joined by pitching coach Jim Wladyka of Don Bosco Prep (N.J.) and assistant coach Kerrick Jackson, formerly of Missouri on his staff.
Boretti recently wrapped up a memorable 10th year at the helm of the Lions' program. Columbia went 34-17, establishing a new single-season record for wins, and won its third consecutive Ivy League title. At the NCAA Coral Gables Regional, the Lions went 3-2 to reach the Regional Final game against the University of Miami, the fifth national seed in the NCAA Tournament.
A total of 108 players will compete for a spot on the 18U squad. Following the event, the first round of trials will begin on June 29 followed by a second round on August 16 in Fullerton, California.
