STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Two of the top times in school history were posted by the Columbia track & field teams at today's Fastrack National Invite, hosted by Manhattan at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
Robert Napolitano had a battle in the 1-Mile run, going toe-to-toe Cornell's James Gowans all the way to the finish line. Both Ivy League runners came in under the 4-minute mark, as Gowans' 3:58.24 edged Napolitano's 3:58.98.
The Columbia junior becomes just the second-ever Lion to run a sub 4-minute indoor mile, as Kyle Merber '12CC owns the indoor school-record at 3:58.52.
A strong outing on the women's side came from sophomore Sarah Hardie, who was a runner-up herself in the 800m run. Hardie crossed the line in 2:09.72, which was her career-best effort in the indoor half-mile. She overtakes teammate Brittany Wade with the fourth fastest Columbia time in the 800m, as Wade ran a 2:09.79 a season ago.
At today's event, Wade came through with a solid half-mile herself, when she took eighth in 2:11.43, right behind first-year Libby Kokes who finished seventh in 2:11.27.
The women also had top performances from seniors Olivia Sadler and Iris Chijioke. In the 1 Mile run, Sadler claimed fourth in 4:43.45, while Chijioke was the sixth runner across the finish line in the 60m Hurdles at 8.68 seconds.
The 3K run saw a career-best effor from Henna Rustami, who clocked a 9:34.35 for third, while Pegah Khosravi-Kamrani and Chloe Binczyk came through in the top-four in the 5K. Khosravi-Kamrani was third in 16:52.03, followed by Binczyk in fourth at 17:06.09.
