Chijioke Earns Hurdles Title at IC4A/ECAC Championships

BOSTON - Senior Iris Chijioke led the way for the Columbia track & field teams at the IC4A/ECAC Championships, winning the 60m hurdles this weekend at Boston University.
After an 8.62 in the prelims gave her the second fastest time, Chijioke came within .01 of a season best in the semifinal, crossing the line in 8.57 seconds. It was a tight finish for first in the final, but the senior clocked an 8.64, narrowly defeating Rhode Island's Janel Conley, who ran 8.65.
The men had a strong finish from Spencer Haik, who claimed third in the 1K run. The sophomore went 2:25.01, putting up a season-best in the process.
In the women's 200m run, Akua Obeng-Akrofi was a sixth place finisher, cruising across the line in 24.23 during the finals. During the prelims, the sophomore also clocked a 24.23, which was a season-best effort.
Corey Hammond was also able to score points for Columbia, when he finished eighth in the 500m run at 1:03.86.
The final indoor meet for the Lions will take place next weekend, when Robert Napolitano will take part in the 1 Mile run at the 2016 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, in Birmingham, Alabama.
