Track & Field Concludes Day Two of 2026 Indoor Heps

Brotschi, men’s 4x800 relay take home silver medals
NEW YORK– The Columbia indoor track and field team wrapped up the 2026 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday at the Armory, adding two more silver medals and multiple podium finishes.
In the 400m, senior Haydn Brotschi took home a silver medal, clocking 46.71 to place second and add eight points to Columbia's total. Brotschi also clocked 21.67 in the 200m competition to collect his third medal of the day.
In the men's 4x800m relay, junior Nicholas Hayden, junior Justin Gottlieb, senior Matt Gatune, and senior Jacob Van Orden combined for a season-best 7:33.29 to finish second overall and earn eight team points.
On the women's side, the quartet of freshman Meredith Wolfe, junior Grace Carr, sophomore Isabella Shertzer, and senior Lucy Henkel secured third in the 4x800m relay, crossing in a season-best 8:45.53 to add six points.
Columbia closed out the relays with another podium finish in the men's 4x400m, as sophomore Caden Cutchall, junior Zach Willen, senior Matthew Mazero, and Brotschi placed third overall in 3:11.72, contributing six points to the Lions' team total.
Senior Jacob Van Orden continued his strong championship meet in the 800m final, placing third in 1:50.12 to score six points for the Lions.
On the women's side, senior Lucy Henkel turned in a season-best 2:07.41 in the 800m final, finishing fourth overall and contributing four points.
Senior Matt Gatune secured a third-place finish in the men's 1,000m, crossing in a personal-best 2:21.79 to add six points to Columbia's team total.
Columbia also found the podium in the field as sophomore Madison Williams secured third in the women's triple jump with a mark of 12.63m.
As a team, the men finished in sixth with 52 points and the women finished in eighth with 18 points.
