NEW YORK - The Columbia track & field teams will fight low temperatures and high winds this weekend, when the Lions take part in three different meets.
Columbia will travel to Friday's Virginia Quad and a pair of meets on Saturday, which include the Metropolitan Championships and the Lou Onesty/Milton G. Abramson Invitational.
The Virginia Quad will be first, as the host Cavaliers welcome Penn, Mayland and Columbia in a dual scoring meet. Events are scheduled to start at 4:30 pm, as temperatures will dip below 40 at UVA, with winds expected to gust up to 20 miles per hour. A full meet schedule can be found here.
Virginia will also host the Lou Onesty/Milton G. Abramson Invitational at 3:30 pm on Saturday. Temperatures in Charlottesville on Saturday will only feature a high of 46 degrees, with winds gusting throughout the day up to 25 miles per hour.
Columbia will have two of the top hurdlers at Saturday's Virginia meet, as Iris Chijioke is the top seed in the women's 100m hurdles, and Corey Hammond comes in at number one in the men's 400m hurdles.
Athletes not taking part in the pair of Virginia meets will head to Rutgers for the Metropolitan Championships. Field events on Saturday are scheduled to get under way at 10:30 am, with running events holding an 11 am start.
