NEW YORK - The top two singles players on both tennis teams were named the Columbia Student-Athletes of the month for April in Shawn Hadavi and Kanika Vaidya.
Hadavi picked up Ivy League Player of the Year honors in April, as the No. 1 singles player for the men's tennis team. The junior from Dobbs Ferry, New York opened the month with a victory over No. 81 Dovydas Sakinis of Dartmouth, 6-2, 6-2. Hadavi helped the Lions to their third straight Ivy League title, posting a 6-1 record in such matches. He went on to go 3-1 alongside Victor Pham in doubles play, soaring up to No. 77 in the latest ITA singles rankings. The Ivy League Champion Lions will learn where they will play in the NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament tomorrow.
Vaidya was also named Ivy League Player of the Year, posting a perfect 7-0 record against such opponents, while going 19-1 overall during the spring season. The senior from Singapore led the Lions to three wins in April, holding down the top singles spot. Vaidya will now await the NCAA Team and Individual Tournament selections this week, as she holds down the No. 43 spot in the ITA singles rankings.
