Women's Tennis Defeats St. John's 8-5 in Day One of Roar-ee Invitational

NEW YORK, N.Y.—The Columbia women's tennis team defeated St. John's 8-5 in an extended dual match Friday in day one of the Roar-ee Invitational at Dick Savitt Tennis Center. The event features a three-way extended dual match format featuring Columbia, Penn and St. John's.
Columbia captured six of the nine singles matches against St. John's. The two schools split the four doubles matches. Winning singles matches for Columbia included Ali Pollack, Renee Ren, Andrea Kevakian, Ashby Bland, Vivian Cheng and Sarah Hu. Rima Asatrian and Ali Pollack won the No. 1 doubles match and Star Makarome and Alex Solovyev came away winners at No. 4 doubles.
Today, Columbia will face Ivy League rival Penn in singles No. 1-6 beginning at 10 a.m. At noon, all three schools will have a singles scramble with one match per player. Following the scramble, all three teams will have a doubles scramble with one match per team. On Sunday, Penn and St. John's will square off in No. 1-7 singles matches at 9 a.m. Doubles matches No. 1-3 will be played at approximately 11:30 a.m.
