NEW YORK - A trio of upperclassmen in Alex Bangerl, Arthur Bosua and Andrew Tinari have been named the 2016 men's soccer captains, announced by head coach Kevin Anderson.
"The strength of any team is highly dependent on the leadership on the field," said Anderson. "The skill sets, strengths and personality of Arthur, Alex and Andrew significantly compliment each other and embody the collective vision, mission and values of the team."
Now in his third year as a starter on the back line, Bangerl has been a force at center back. The Pforzheim, Germany, native logged 1,419 minutes a season ago, picking up honorable mention All-Ivy League honors along the way. Now a junior, Bangerl was part of the defense in 2015 that allowed the fewest shots on goal in the conference with 63, helping goalie Kyle Jackson to seven shutout wins.
A first team All-Ivy League selection last year, Bosua led the team in scoring with five goals. In 2016, the Dix Hills, New York, native is off to a fast start through two games, picking up a goal and an assist while earning Ivy League Player of the Week honors. Bosua, a junior forward, has tallied eight goals and four assists in 30 games.
A former Ivy League Rookie of the Year and three-time all-conference selection, Tinari has been a staple in the midfield throughout his career. Now a senior, Tinari has 26 career points and has seen action in 46 games prior to the start of the 2016 season. The Holbrook, New York, native is already on the scoreboard this year, netting the first goal of the game against Michigan State on Monday.
