Canby Nabs Ivy Rookie of the Week Honors

PRINCETON, N.J. - After an impressive two-game sweep of Monmouth, Columbia's Madison Canby has been named the Ivy League Softball Rookie of the Week.
Canby started the first game in the circle against the Hawks, going six innings and surrendering just one run on four hits while striking out five during the 9-1 win for the Lions. With Columbia leading 3-1 in the second game, the Pembroke Pines, Florida, native recorded a save, blanking Monmouth in the final 2.2 innings while striking out a pair, as the Lions held on for a 5-1 win.
The first-year improved to 3-4 on the season while recording her second save of 2017 on Friday. Canby is the second Lion to earn Rookie of the Week honors in the Ancient Eight, as Sommer Grzybek was named Co-Player and Rookie of the week on March 20.
Columbia is back in action at 2 p.m. Friday in the Ivy League opener, when the Lions host Dartmouth.
