Qingyi Symba Xu Leads Women's Golf Against Richmond

Symba Xu finishes in second place at one-over-par 73-72-145 while competing as an individual; Richmond (+6, 295-287-582) defeats Columbia (+27, 306-297-603).
MIDLOTHIAN, Va.—Sophomore Qingyi Symba Xu finished in second place at one-over-par 73-72-145 to lead the Columbia women's golf in its head-to-head matchup against Richmond Saturday and Sunday at the Independence Golf Club. Richmond (+6, 295-287-582) defeated Columbia (+27, 306-297-603) by 23 strokes in the head-to-head team competition.
Xu fired a 73 in Saturday's first round, then followed it up by shooting Even on Sunday. She tied for second place with Richmond's Naomi Mitchell. Richmond's Annie Collum ended up the individual winner after shooting a three-under-par 74-67-141. Since she competed as an individual, Xu's score did not count in Columbia's team scoring. Her 72 on Sunday represented a career-low round. She carded a field-low 27 pars on the weekend.
First-year Alexis Florio followed Xu as she tied for fourth place at three-over par 75-72-147 and senior Amy Ding placed sixth at five-over-par 77-72-149. Ding shot Even 72 on Sunday to tie her career low for a round. She ranked second in the field in pars with 25 and third in par-5 scoring (4.88).
First-year Marlene Tartaro (nine-over-par 78-75-153) finished eighth, first-year Jennifer Wang (10-over-par 76-78-154) placed ninth and sophomore Katie Lee (12-over-par 78-78-156) was 10th.
Rounding out Columbia finishers included sophomore Kim Chiang, who placed 11th at 14-over-par 82-76-158 and junior Emily Chu finished 14th at 16-over-par 81-79-160.
The Richmond Match-Up was being played at the Independence Golf Club in Midlothian, Va., which is a par-72, 6,090-yard course. The players played 36-holes with 18 on Saturday and 18 on Sunday. Team scores will include the best four scores from the six competing golfers. Final results are available throughout the weekend at GolfStat.com.
This event marks Columbia's third competition of the fall season. The Lions close out fall competition next weekend at the Lady Blue Hen Invitational in Rehoboth Beach, Del., Saturday, Oct. 20-Sunday, Oct. 21.
