Columbia Falls in Road Meet at Yale

The Lions dropped their first meet of the season on Friday, falling to Yale in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Columbia women's swimming and diving program dropped its first meet of the season Friday evening, falling to Yale, 205-90, in New Haven, Connecticut. The Lions move to 2-1 in dual meets in the 2018-19 campaign.

First-year Briget Rosendahl got things moving on the right foot, winning the 3-meter springboard competition with a score of 280.20, edging out the defending Ivy League champion in the event in Yale's Nikki Waters. In addition to winning on 3-meter with a NCAA Zones qualifying score, Rosendahl also posted a Zones qualifying score on 1-meter, finishing fourth with a 267.23 tally.

"It's always good to see where you stack up against the best divers in the league," said head diving coach Scott Donie. "It was a really great competition and came down to the last dive."

Aside from the diving competition, the Lions struggled to put together wins as the Bulldogs claimed victories in most of the swimming events.

Highlighting the swimming performances for the Lions included a 2-3 finish from the Lions in the 100 breaststroke as junior Helen Wojdylo posted a time of 1:05.12, and senior Jessica Antiles followed at 1:05.42. Wojdylo also finished third in the 200 breast, coming in to the wall in 2:21.57. Antiles pegged a third-place finish in the 200 IM with a season-best time of 2:05.59.

First-year Mary Pruden also had a notable performance in the 500 freestyle, placing fourth with a season-best time of 5:02.84. Fellow rookie Kasey Karkoska also had a nice swim in the 200 backstroke, posting a season-best time of 2:03.78.

The Lions will look to bounce back next weekend, resuming Ivy League competition as they travel to face Harvard on Friday, Nov. 16, at noon ET.
