Field Team Has Strong Performances At Yale

A bevy of top performances happened for the Columbia track & field team, when the Lions competed at the Yale Season Opener today in New Haven, Connecticut.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A bevy of top performances happened for the Columbia track & field team, when the Lions competed at the Yale Season Opener today in New Haven, Connecticut.
The men were led by a second place outing by Robert O'Brien in the pole vault. The senior cleared 4.80m (15-9) on his first attempt, leading to the runner-up finish. First-year Tiber Sierreeni also got over 4.80m on his second attempt, helping him post the second best outing in school history to O'Brien's school record of 5.20m.
In the high jump, O'Brien and Luke Ciarelli tied for fifth place, as the pair both cleared 1.89m (6-2.5) on the day.
The Columbia men also saw a top-five performance by Jack Pihlkar in the weight throw, when the junior threw 16.50m (54-1.5) on his fifth attempt.
On the women's side, first-year Kali Hatcher went home a winner after a strong performance in the long jump. Hatcher went 5.43m (17-9.75) during her fourth attempt to take home the win. Not far behind was Alexis Turley-Young, who claimed third place in the same event at 5.26m (17-3).
In the high jump, sophomore Grace Campbell got over 1.65m (5-5) to finish in second place.
Columbia will take the rest of the semester off before returning on January 12 for the Great Dane Classic at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Complex.
