Princeton Defeats Women's Basketball, 74-46

NEW YORK — The Columbia women's basketball team was defeated by Ivy League leader Princeton, 74-46, Saturday evening at Levien Gymnasium.

Columbia (7-18, 1-9 Ivy) gave Princeton (19-4, 9-1 Ivy) a fight for the majority of the first half, but the Tigers took control with 11 straight points to go up 36-20 before the break. They made it a 14-0 run with a triple to begin the second half and led by 22 midway through the third quarter.

The Lions cut the margin to 15 with a 3-pointer by first-year Madison Pack heading to the fourth, but that was as close as it got. The first-place Tigers outscored Columbia 21-8 in the final period to cruise to victory.

"You can't just settle for mediocrity and expect to show up and beat Princeton, or anyone in this league for that matter," head coach Megan Griffith stated. "We allowed a lot of open shots and made it easy for them."

Princeton shot over 55 percent in the contest, including over 70 percent in the second and third quarters combined. Senior Leslie Robinson led the charge with a game-high 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting, also coming up with a team-high eight rebounds and dishing out five assists. Freshmen Carlie Littlefield and Abby Meyers each scored a dozen.

Senior Camille Zimmerman and first-year Riley Casey paced the Lions with 10 points apiece. Zimmerman was limited offensively to just 3-of-18 shooting on an evening in which Columbia shot less than 30 percent from the field. Despite the rough shooting night, the Lions hit nearly 44 percent of their 3-point attempts (7-16), including a 4-for-8 third quarter to hang around.

Zimmerman came up just one rebound and two assists shy of her first collegiate triple-double. Her eight assists marked a career high. Sophomore Janiya Clemmons bested her career mark in rebounds with an even game-high 10.

Columbia takes on Brown next Friday and Yale next Saturday for its final road trip of the season. Both games are available on the Ivy League Network. Friday's game will also be streamed on ESPN3.
