
Archery Dominant In East Regional Outdoor Championships

Brittney Shin and Aileen Yu both captured East Regional titles over the weekend at the 2018 East Regional Outdoor Collegiate Championships to highlight a stellar outdoor season for Columbia archery. Shin edged teammate Sophia Strachan in a one arrow shoot-off to capture the compound gold. Deborah Teo also earned her first collegiate medal with a bronze finish in the compound.
NEW YORK – Brittney Shin and Aileen Yu both captured East Regional titles over the weekend at the 2018 East Regional Outdoor Collegiate Championships to highlight a stellar outdoor season for Columbia archery. Shin edged teammate Sophia Strachan in a one arrow shoot-off to capture the compound gold. Deborah Teo also earned her first collegiate medal with a bronze finish in the compound.

Aileen Yu came away with the gold in the recurve, winning the battle against teammate Jenny Han. Bianca Gotuaco went on to place fourth overall in the elimination shootout round. The Lions also won team titles in both the recurve and the compound, while tabbing six All-East Team selections which is determined by the top scores in their combined Indoor Nationals & Outdoor Regionals performances. Congrats to Aileen Yu (1589), Jenny Han (1563), Bianca Gotuaco (1557), Sophia Strachan (1830), Brittney Shin (1776) and Deborah Teo (1712 on All-East honors.

The outdoor season began at the 2018 AAE Arizona Cup for Columbia archery earlier this month. Sophia Strachan led with the highest score in the qualification round of the compound with 653 points in the college junior division, followed closely by Brittney Shin with 651 points. Also posting 600-plus scores was Deborah Teo (608) and Katherine Alfaro (601). Aileen Yu led the Lions in the recurve with a team-high score of 591, just ahead of Bianca Gotuaco with 578 points. Stephanie Kim also tallied a score of 445 points.
Columbia dominated at the Adam Wheatcroft Memorial the following weekend with first-place team finishes in both the recurve and compound. Strachan took the gold in the individual compound, while Shin came away with the bronze medal. The 1-3 punch continued in the recurve with Aileen Yu taking the crown and Gotuaco in third place.
