Brisebois Leads Men's Golf at Cornell Invitational

With a 14th place finish, Nick Brisebois leads Lions for second straight week, four golfers register career-low rounds as Lions place 11th as a team at Cornell.
ITHACA, N.Y.—For the second consecutive week, junior Nick Brisebois led the Columbia men's golf team as he finished in 14th place with a three-over par 68-76-72-216 and four Lions registered career-low rounds this weekend at the Cornell Invitational. As a team, youthful Columbia finished in 11th place at 31-over-par 289-296-298-883. Columbia's 289 shot in the first round marked a team-low round for the year.
It was Brisebois' second consecutive top-20 finish as he opened the weekend on fire by carding a three-under-par and a career-low 69 in the first round. He caught fire on the back nine as he finished with five birdies, including three consecutive on holes 14, 15 and 16. He finished the round with six birdies. His second round saw him card three birdies and an eagle on par-5 hole No. 6 while shooting a five-over par 76. He shot three birdies in Sunday's third round. For the weekend, Brisebois finished with 12 birdies and one eagle and ranked sixth among all golfers in total birdies (12), third among all golfers in par-5 scoring and second in eagles (1).
Sophomore Youn Sung Kim, first-year Daniel Core and first-year Derek Kim all finished tied for 43rd place. All three shot career rounds and saw success on the weekend. All three are in their first year competing in collegiate golf.
Youn Sung Kim finished at 11-over-par 75-69-80-224. He used four birdies and 12 pars to shoot a career-low two-under-par 69 in Saturday's second round. He finished the three-day invite with six birdies.
Core finished at 11-over-par 75-79-70-224. His best round was the third round on Sunday which saw him fire four birdies and shoot a career-low 70. He completed the weekend with six birdies.
Derek Kim registered an 11-over-par 69-76-79-224. Kim used two eagles to shoot a career-low two-under-par 69 in Saturday's first round. He also broke par for the first time in his career at 69. In the second round, he caught fire on the back nine with four birdies, carding three consecutive birdies on holes 14, 15 and 16, but ended with a 76. He completed the weekend with nine birdies and a tournament-field-best two eagles.
Sophomore John Robertson ended the invite in 60th place with a 14-over-par 71-77-79-227. His 71 ranked as Columbia's second-best first round total. He totaled four birdies on the weekend.
Rounding out Columbia scoring was junior Cullen Chung, who finished in 67th place at 16-over-par 78-74-77-229. Chung tallied nine total birdies, including four in the second round.
Yale won the team competition as it shot a 13-under-par 276-278-285-839, while Yale's Eoin Leonard won the individual title.
The teams played 36 holes with a shotgun start on Saturday and competed in the final 18 holes with tee times on Sunday. The Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell University plays to 6,904 yards with a par of 71 from the Big Red tees. It has a rating of 73.1 and a slope of 137. Four Ivy League teams and 15 total teams competed in the event including Binghamton, Bucknell, Canisius, Colgate, Columbia, Cornell Dartmouth, Penn, St. Bonaventure, St. Joseph's, Siena, Temple and Yale. Host Cornell and Penn entered two teams apiece.
Columbia takes a weekend off and is back in action Sunday, Sept. 30-Monday, Oct. 1 at the Binghamton Invitational in Vestal, N.Y. at Hiawatha Landing.
