APALACHIN, N.Y.—Columbia sophomore John Robertson was in the title chase until the very end and placed third after finishing with a four-under-par 69-71-140 Monday afternoon at the Matthews Auto Intercollegiate. After Sunday's first round, Robertson found himself in a six-way tie for second place after shooting a career-low three-under-par 69. But while most in the pack fell off on Monday, Robertson maintained and improved as he progressed through the course. After carding over-par on the front nine, Robertson fired four birdies on the back nine on holes 12, 14, 16 and 18 to stay in the title race and finish at one-under-par 71. Binghamton's Justin Lane and Zachary Ottman both finished one stroke ahead of Robertson and tied for the individual championship at five-under-par 139.
"The difference for me was keeping my head up throughout the whole round," Robertson said. "Both rounds I played over par on the front nine but I knew that if I just trusted by swing and my process that I could end up shooting a better score. So I played the back nines really well this week."
On Sunday, Robertson registered his career-low round of 69 with five birdies and used four consecutive birdies on holes 14, 15, 16 and 17 to record a four-under-par 32 on the back nine.
For the weekend, he ranked second in the field with nine birdies and he finished tied for first in par-4 scoring at 3.80 (under-4).
As a team, Columbia combined to shoot a four-over-par 293-292-585 to place fifth in the team competition. Binghamton maintained its lead on Monday and won the invitational with a 14-under-par 277-285-562. Longwood (four-over-par 289-291-580) and St. Bonaventure (four-over-par 293-287-580) finished tied for second and Robert Morris finished one stroke ahead of Columbia for fourth place.

First-year Pat Healy, who competed as an individual, shot a 12-over-par 80-76-156. He registered four birdies on Monday.
