Lions Win 14 Events Against Dartmouth, Yale

Both the men and women’s teams combined to win 14 events on the afternoon, with six of the results falling in the all-time Columbia top-10.
NEW YORK – The Columbia track & field teams impressed at home today during a Tri-Meet with Dartmouth and Yale at the NYC Armory.
The men won the team title with 66 points, ahead of second place Dartmouth with 62, while the women were second to Dartmouth (89) with 59 points. Both the men and women's teams combined to win 14 events on the afternoon, with six of the results falling in the all-time Columbia top-10.
Men's Recap
In his first ever 500m run, Josiah Langstaff was victorious. The senior clocked a 1:04.05, which was the sixth fastest time in program history.
The win for Langstaff was one of six in the running events for the men.
Alek Sauer and Brian Zabilski went 1-2 in the 1 Mile run, with Sauer leading the way in a personal best 4:12.03, ahead of Zabilski's 4:13.57. Sam Ritz clocked an indoor personal best when he took the tape in the 800m at 1:51.85, while Jackson Storey also ran a personal best in the 1,000m to win in 2:29.39, edging second place Solomon Fountain in 2:29.48. The Lion men also won the 4x800m relay in 7:43.27 behind Storey, Ritz, Fountain and Aaron Breen – who also won the 3,000m in 8:22.68.
On the field side, the Columbia men posted three victories. Robert O'Brien took the pole vault title, clearing 4.90m (16-1) for a season best. Daniel Igbokwe was a winner in the triple jump at 15.08m (49-5.75), while also claiming second in the long jump at 6.87m (22-6.5) for the 10th best effort in program history.
In the men's weight throw, Jack Pihlkar popped off an 18.18m (59-7.75) throw on his final attempt, landing him fourth in program history. The sophomore was first in the event, topping second place teammate Hunter Hasley, who's second attempt traveled 16.25m (53.3-75).
Women's Recap
Only two Columbia women have ever ran a faster 500m after today, as Terri Turner blazed on the track. The sophomore took the tape in 1:12.79, just 1.55 seconds off Sharay Hale's school record.
Another win for the women came from Iman Sule, as the junior went 25.08 in the 200m for a personal best and the ninth best time in program history.
In the 1 Mile run, Columbia finished 1-2-3, led by Katie Wasserman. The senior clocked a personal best 4:53.83, topping Erin Gregoire in second at 4:54.64, and Allie Hays in third at 4:59.07. Along with Turner, Jillian Murray who was second in the 800m, and Bianca Alonzo, Wasserman helped the Lions to a win in the 4x800m relay as Columbia crossed first in 9:04.09.
The jump events saw first-year Kali Hatcher post the sixth best effort in program history, as she took the triple jump with a 12.36m (40-6.5) leap. Hatcher went on to take second in the long jump at 5.50m (18-0.5), while Maryam Hassan was third in both the long jump (5.46m/17-11), and triple jump (11.38m/37-4).
Other top results from the women included Lauren Micham taking second in the 60m hurdles at 8.73 and third in the 60m at 7.92, while Annie Fanta was the runner-up in the 1,000m at 2:55.02.
The hosting continues for Columbia next weekend, when the Lions welcome teams back to the Armory for the Columbia Challenge.
