NEW YORK - Columbia baseball has named its captains for the 2020 season. Outfielder Julian Bury, catcher Liam McGill, and pitcher Leo Pollack will each enter their final year with the Lions as leaders of this Lions squad, selected by a team vote.
Bury is coming off a second team All-Ivy League campaign in 2019. His 16 doubles tied for fifth in school history for a single season and averaged 0.38 doubles per game, good for 23rd in the country. Bury ended last season on a 15-game hitting streak. He was also named Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 2017 to go along with a Collegiate Freshman All-American selection, hitting .333 with 32 runs scored.
McGill, a two-time second team All-Ivy League selection, has a .318 average through 127 games in his three seasons with Columbia. In 2018, he led the team with a .320 batting average while playing in all 50 games. McGill also led the team in hits, doubles, RBI, slugging percentage and total bases. In 2019, he slugged four home runs and 10 doubles to go along with a .299 average. His best game came against North Florida, where he went 5-for-6 with a home run and four RBI.
Pollack enters his senior season having pitched in 54 games, six away from setting the record for most appearances in Columbia baseball history. The lefty holds the Lions record for most appearances in a single season with 26, set during the Lions' 2018 Ivy League Championship run. Last season, Pollack recorded a 2.40 ERA in 30 innings of work.
