Abbey Hsu Named Ivy League Rookie of the Week

First-year led Lions to record-setting victory
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Ivy League named Columbia's Abbey Hsu its women's basketball Rookie of the Week on Monday. Hsu scored a game-high 18 points in Saturday's 99-43 victory over NJIT.
A first-year guard out of Parkland, Florida, Hsu was near perfect from the field to lead the Lions to their sixth consecutive victory and largest margin of victory against a Div. I opponent in program history. She hit her first seven attempts, finishing the game 7-of-8 from the floor and 4-of-5 from 3-point range. Led by Hsu's effort, Columbia ended the afternoon 59.7 percent shooting (40-67) and 54.2 percent from 3-point range (13-24). The rookie added two assists and a rebound.
The win put new marks all over the team record book. The Lions tied for their second-most assists (29) and 3-pointers (13) in program history, while posting top-five marks in shooting percentage and points scored. In fact, Columbia's 99 points were its most against a Div. I opponent since a 114-111 quadruple-overtime victory over Penn on March 4, 1988. Their 40 made field goals also broke into the team's top 10.
Hsu shares the team lead in scoring at 11.7 points per game while shooting 48.4 percent from the field and 44.4 percent (16-36) from 3-point range. She ranks top 15 in the Ivy League in scoring, rebounding (5.3), steals (1.5) and minutes (29.5), and is also No. 8 in the Ivies in 3-point field goals per game (1.6).
The weekly Ivy honor is the first of Hsu's career. Last week, senior captain Janiya Clemmons was named Ivy League Player of the Week for the first time.
Riley Casey was named to this week's honor roll. The junior captain scored 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including 3-of-5 from the perimeter, adding four assists, two rebounds and a block in just 11 minutes.
The Lions (7-3) head to Nashville this week in preparation for two games in the Music City. Columbia visits Memorial Gymnasium to take on Vanderbilt (9-3) Sunday, Dec. 29, at 3 p.m. ET. Tennessee State (2-7) awaits the Lions 24 hours later.
