Columbia Hosts Georgetown Friday Morning for Education Day

Red-hot Lions look to extend winning streak
NEW YORK – Winners of three straight, the Columbia women's basketball team (4-3) will pack the Levien Gymnasium stands Friday morning as it takes on Georgetown for its 12th-annual Education Day game. Tip time is slated for 11 a.m.

EDUCATION DAY
• Columbia has partnered with the New York City Department of Education for the 12th consecutive year to invite more than 2,000 elementary school students representing 16 New York City schools. Last season, the Lions brought in a program-record crowd of 2,602 to Levien Gymnasium.
OPENING TIPS
• The Lions enter Friday on a three-game winning streak that began Nov. 17 with a 61-59 victory over reigning NEC champion Robert Morris. Columbia went on to defeat Army on the road and most recently put together its most dominant win of the season, taking out Milwaukee, 74-46 last Saturday.
• Columbia ranks among the NCAA's top 60 and among the Ivy League leaders in rebound margin (+6.9), rebounds per game (42.71), blocks per game (4.3) and 3-point defense (.263).
• First year guard Abbey Hsu is averaging a team-high 12.9 points and ranks No. 11 in the Ivy League in scoring. Hsu is shooting 46.7 percent from the field and an impressive 44.0 percent (11-25) from long range. She has been named to the Ivy League weekly honor roll all four weeks.

ZIMMERMAN MAKING A SPLASH OVERSEAS
• Columbia alumna Camille Zimmerman '18CC was named the Naisten Korisliiga Player of the Month for November. Naisten Korisliiga is the premiere women's basketball league of Finland. Zimmerman is in her second season playing for the club Kouvottaret, where she averages 16.8 points and 9.5 rebounds through 11 games on the campaign. Zimmerman posted impressive marks to earn the November Player of the Month selection. She averaged 18.8 points, 10 rebounds and 3.8 assists to lead her team to a perfect 4-0 record through the month. A two-time First Team All-Ivy League selection and the 2016-17 All-Met Div. I Women's College Basketball Player of the Year, Zimmerman graduated Columbia in 2018 as the program's all-time leader in scoring and rebounding. She accumulated 1,973 points and 940 rebounds in four seasons and is also the single-season record holder in scoring (608 points, 22.5 points per game).
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN
• The Hoyas return to the east coast after spending Thanksgiving weekend in Lost Angeles competing at the LMU Thanksgiving Classic. They went 1-1 on the trip, defeating the host Lions, 64-53, on Friday and falling to Fresno State, 82-69, on Saturday. Brianna Jones was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll after averaging a team-high 17.5 points along with 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals. Jones is the team's leading scorer on the season, entering Friday averaging 11.4 points and shooting 40.8 percent from the field. Anita Kelava heads the effort on the glass (7.9/game) and is a force defending the rim. The 6-3 forward has 16 blocks on the year (2.29/game), ranking atop the BIG EAST and top 30 in the NCAA.
